When we started our mother company, Controlled Environment Packaging in 1994 the primary focus was concentrated on military and industrial packaging and preservation.  The heavy-duty barrier materials we were using were very important but so was the tools and method of sealing same.  We experimented with impulse sealers and found them unacceptable for our materials, we tried rotary sealers and while they preformed quite well, corners and gussets were difficult to deal with and operator fatigue was a problem due to the weight of the unit.  Our continued searching found two jaw type or clamp type heat sealers imported from Europe. One has 6” long heating bars and it did work OK but much better suited to small jobs and poly bags.  The second was closer to our requirements but we found we did not like the seal pattern as it is not as secure as a flat seal and replacement parts were near impossible to obtain. The answer, develop our own heat sealer to our specifications.

Teaming up with Joseph Panetta, President of Panafab, Inc. the first heat sealer prototype was developed and used at the beginning of 1999.  The first test project for the sealer was packaging and preserving the forward section of a C-130 Hercules fuselage for shipment from Maryland to Egypt.  Over 600 feet of sealed seams were made with the prototype and the performance exceeded our expectations.
